Trippie Redd Says No New Rapper Matches XXXTentacion or Juice WRLD

Trippie Redd went off on the current state of rap in a series of Instagram Stories this September 26, 2026, arguing that record labels keep signing artists with limited potential and pushing them as if they were the next Lil Uzi Vert. In his view, none of today’s new names come close to the impact of Uzi, Juice WRLD or XXXTentacion.

Trippie Redd’s full statement on the new generation

Trippie Redd posted a long message breaking down what he sees as a broken system: labels change how streaming and sales numbers get reported to make established artists look bigger and rising ones look smaller, he claimed, while at the same time pushing new signees with money that used to go toward developing veteran acts. “Labels are signing 💩🍑 artists with a small ceiling and giving them a push like they are a Uzi,” he wrote, “but it doesn’t work because none of these new artists are Uzi or Juice or X or me.”

“None of these new artists are Uzi, Juice, X or me”

That line became the centerpiece of the conversation around Trippie Redd’s comments on the new generation of rap, since he immediately backed it up by pointing to the catalog those artists left behind: “All those artists I just named have great real songs that can be played by all, not just kids.” Trippie asked directly how many working parents actually listen to the newer generation of rappers, guessing “probably 10%,” a jab at how narrow he believes today’s audience for new rap actually is.

A label system built to inflate new artists, according to Trippie

Beyond the comparison to Uzi, Juice WRLD and XXXTentacion, Trippie Redd zeroed in on the business side of the industry. He argued that labels have an “obligation to make their new artists seem big” to justify their own relevance, which pushes them to redirect resources that veteran, proven-selling artists would normally receive. “The industry is weird right now,” he wrote, “a bunch of wannabes doing the same music,” according to Complex’s coverage of the Instagram Stories rant.

Calling out “fast food hipster music”

Trippie also took aim at the sound itself, describing part of the current wave as “fast food hipster music” and admitting his own past releases helped shape that lane. “I’m actually sorry for contributing to this fast food hipster music,” he wrote, adding that “someone’s gotta get out their box and make good music, not just all underground-sounding stuff.” He closed the thought with one of his sharpest lines: “You can’t play me a ‘F*ck Love’ or a ‘Taking a Walk’ by any of these new jits, it’s all turn up, drink, pop a pill, no meaning.”

What Trippie Redd said about the SoundCloud era

The rant echoes comments Trippie made previously about labels trying and failing to recreate the 2010s SoundCloud rap boom, when he named Playboi Carti, Lil Yachty and Uno the Activist as the genre’s real architects rather than the acts labels are currently pushing as their successors. Lil Pump made a similar point back in February 2026, when he singled out the same era’s original figures as irreplaceable. Trippie’s latest comments arrive as he continues distancing himself from parts of his own back catalog, having recently called his 2017 collaboration “Poles 1469” his worst song during a livestream.

Whether labels respond to the criticism or not, Trippie Redd’s comments have reopened a conversation the rap community keeps circling back to: whether the industry’s current crop of new artists can ever be measured against the generation that defined the genre’s last golden era.
