Nicki Minaj has sparked another political controversy after attacking New York Governor Kathy Hochul, calling her an “evil woman” and urging voters to support Republican candidate Bruce Blakeman. Hochul responded with a pointed remark about the rapper’s association with Donald Trump.
The exchange began on Wednesday, October 28, when Minaj posted a message on X questioning Hochul’s leadership and arguing that the Democratic Party should give up her seat. “She will not escape God’s wrath,” the rapper wrote, accusing the governor of failing to speak out against actions that, in Minaj’s view, have harmed innocent people.
Nicki Minaj Urges New Yorkers to Vote for Bruce Blakeman
Minaj did not stop with her initial criticism. In a second lengthy post, the rapper directly addressed Black voters and Christians, questioning how they could continue supporting Hochul in the upcoming election.
“How much more do you need to see and hear from them?” Minaj wrote, before urging New Yorkers to vote for Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate challenging Hochul for the governor’s office.
The rapper also brought up previous comments by Hochul that sparked controversy. One example dates back to 2024, when the governor made remarks about Black children in the Bronx and their familiarity with computers. Hochul later apologized, acknowledging that she had misspoken.
Minaj also criticized comments Hochul made to a Black congregation during an event in 2025. Those past remarks have resurfaced online as the gubernatorial race enters its final stretch.

Kathy Hochul Responds to Nicki Minaj With a Trump Reference
Hochul addressed the rapper’s comments on Wednesday while campaigning in Albany. Asked by reporters about Minaj’s post, the governor suggested the artist should spend less time online and stay away from Donald Trump’s political events.
“Maybe she oughta get outside and offline a little more. And stop going to Trump rallies because it’s kinda poisoning your mind,” Hochul told reporters.
Her response quickly became another talking point in the final days of New York’s gubernatorial campaign. Blakeman also weighed in, using Minaj’s criticism to launch his own attacks against Hochul.
Nicki Minaj’s Political Comments Draw Attention Ahead of Election Day
The public clash comes just days before the November 3 election, as Hochul seeks to remain in office against Republican challenger Blakeman.
Minaj’s involvement has brought additional attention to the race, putting one of hip-hop’s most recognizable figures at the center of a political debate. The rapper previously supported Hochul during her 2018 campaign for lieutenant governor, but in recent months she has publicly moved closer to Trump and Republican figures. She also attended a Trump rally in Michigan earlier this week.
Polling cited by U.S. media outlets showed Hochul with a double-digit lead over Blakeman as the campaign entered its final days. Still, the exchange with Minaj has added another high-profile moment to an already closely watched election season.
For now, Minaj is standing by her endorsement of Blakeman, while Hochul has made her position on the rapper’s association with Trump clear.
Will this public feud influence the political conversation in New York, or will it remain another viral clash between politics and hip-hop?
