Only a handful of full-length hip-hop projects are dropping tonight, as most artists appear to be leaning on singles instead.
This time of year always gets a little strange for hip-hop albums. The Grammy eligibility window is closing, and artists are starting to regroup for the year ahead. Major labels begin tightening their budgets, and a lot of acts end up on hold until January.
It’s not the most exciting reality, but it’s already showing up in the numbers: fewer artists are dropping albums each week. Tonight is no exception, with only a few full projects landing.
The Albums Dropping Tonight
Leon Bridges returns with “Happiness Anytime,” his fifth studio album, released via Columbia Records and produced by Jungle’s J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto. The project leans into Afro-pop, dub reggae, soul and R&B influences, and follows his 2024 self-titled record “Leon.”
Tinashe drops “Popstar,” while Tee Grizzley releases “They Forgot.” Beyond those three, tonight’s slate of full projects thins out considerably compared to a typical release week.
The Singles Worth Checking Out
Outside of the albums, tonight also brings a wave of new singles from Che & Tezzus, 2hollis, slayr, and even a collaboration between G-Eazy and Ty Dolla $ign. If you’re specifically chasing major hip-hop album releases, though, tonight might leave you a little underwhelmed.
